EarthSkills 22 - 25 Sep 2023
Heritage weekend
From EarthSkills website:
Join us for a hands-on celebration of heritage crafts and skills – SA’s only (we think) nature-based, family-friendly skills fest.
Workshops on offer include leathercraft, felt-making, woodcraft, Xhosa basketry, Xhosa mat making, forging/smithing, food as medicine, primal fire, San heritage teachings, natural movement, traditional archery and more, all guided by passionate and experienced facilitators.
Enjoy this unique opportunity to learn more about land-based living and create your own functional items to take home, using natural materials, in a beautiful rural setting.
In addition, we’ll co-create a skills village experience during our time together, sharing and exchanging stories as we come together in circles to create, and share our evenings by the fire – honouring the old ways and living simply, in connection with nature.
Be sure to book your meals (breakfast and dinner) with the Seed2Fire elemental fire kitchen – our catering partner and an exciting addition to this year’s gathering.
You’ll find the menu and booking details at www.earthskillsafrica.org/2023-menu, or email Tanith directly at seed2fire111@protonmail.com for more info or to pre-book your meals.
The Earthskills Gathering celebrates and supports local skills keepers, and opens up enriching pathways for all those who enjoy wholesome, down-to-earth vibes (and company).
All ages welcome. Let’s do this!

OUR VENUE:
Twin Rivers campsite is located only three kilometres outside the village of Greyton, in the Overberg, at a place where two rivers meet: the Gobos and Sonderend rivers. Much of the campsite is well shaded and offers easy river access for swimming, fishing and boating (bring your own canoe). In addition, nature walks and hikes can be enjoyed in the area. There are no electrical points at the campsites – an added bonus for this immersive nature and skills experience – but its clean, well-maintained ablutions offer solar showers and flushing toilets.
Although camping on site is highly recommended and included in your ticket, Twin Rivers also has a small cottage and a caravan for hire (at an additional fee), and Greyton village nearby offers plenty of additional accommodation options. There is also a limited number of tents and other camping equipment for hire at the venue. To enquire about camping gear or accommodation alternatives, please contact Twin Rivers directly (speak to Wendy) on +27 60 901 9708 or email wendy.b@mweb.co.za.
Note: Meals are self-catering, with an option of ordering breakfasts and dinners from a vendor on site. We will inform you of these options closer to the time.
Please consider contributing to our Community Fund by purchasing an additional Community Ticket to this event. Each ticket purchased assists us in offering access to this event to young skills enthusiasts from under-resourced communities, offering essential hands-on learning and mentorship – not to mention a unique Gathering experience – and enriching our local (and global) earthskills movement. Earthskills Africa is a Section 18A public-benefit organisation. Please contact us directly if you would like to receive a tax receipt against your Community Ticket transactions.
